For more than 45 years, Trustee Steve Schlegel has been a cornerstone of Union League Boys & Girls Clubs. Throughout his decades of service, he has set the standard for safety across Boys & Girls Clubs of America, ensuring that generations of young people have a secure place to learn and grow.
Steve has served as general counsel for much of his tenure and chaired several key committees, including finance, heritage society, and executive. A respected safety program trainer at the national, state, and local levels, he conducts annual safety walks through Club sites and co-created the restorative justice program, a partnership with UIC Law School that continues to make a lasting impact.
This year, Steve’s extraordinary commitment has been recognized with his induction into the 2025 Illinois Boys & Girls Clubs Hall of Fame—an honor that reflects his decades of leadership, care, and unwavering dedication to youth.
